
Johnny Reid, who last year sold more albums in Canada than Michael Buble, leads all 2011 Canadian Country Music Award (CCMA) nominees with a six nods, it was announced today, July 27.
The awards show, celebrating the best in Canadian country music, will take place on Sept. 12 at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario, and will be broadcast live on CBC Television with repeat broadcasts on Country Music Television (CMT).
Country Music Week with live club shows, songwriters’ cafes, fanfest and gala dinner -will lead up to the awards, starting on the Sept. 9.
“Each of today’s nominees has contributed greatly to the success of the Canadian recording industry and helped to raise the profile of Canadian music to even greater heights, “said CCMA executive director Don Green in a press statement. “The incredible talent of these artists, emerging to established, make them a force to be reckoned with on the world stage. This year’s nominees truly demonstrate the influence and creativity of Canadian country music.”
Reid’s six nominations are Fans’ Choice, Single of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and CMT Video of the Year for “Today I’m Gonna Try And Change The World,” Album of the Year and Male Artist of the Year. His album, “A Place Called Love,” also received nominations for Album Design of the Year, Website of the Year and Video Director of the Year.
Dean Brody follows behind with five nominations: Fans’ Choice Award, Single of the Year for “Trail In Life,” Album of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Male Artist of the Year. His team were also acknowledges for Album Design of the Year and Website of the Year.
Brody will also perform on the broadcast, in addition to Paul Brandt and an earlier announced line-up of George Canyon, Terri Clark, Doc Walker, Emerson Drive, Johnny Reid and American artist Ronnie Dunn.
Three artists each garnered four nominations a piece, Canyon for Fans’ Choice Award, Album of the Year and CMT Video of the Year for Better Be Home Soon, and Male Artist of the Year; Gord Bamford winner of the three 2010 Canadian Country Music Awards and Deric Ruttan go head-to-head in the categories of Single of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, CMT Video of the Year and Male Artist of the Year.
Fans’ Choice Award nominee Doc Walker is also nominated for CMT Video of the Year, and Group or Duo of the Year) and recognized in the Rising Star category are Jaydee Bixby, Chad Brownlee, High Valley, Ladies of the Canyon and Codie Prevost.
