John Mayer is rolling out his third major tour in a year. Mayer — who wrapped his current trek last night (March 28) — will head out on another 42-date shed excursion starting July 2 at the Marcus Amphitheatre in Milwaukee. The dates — with opening acts Maroon 5 and DJ Logic — will end Aug. 29 at HiFi Buys Amphitheatre in Atlanta.
Last year, Mayer toured with the Counting Crows on a 42-date road trip from July to September.
Prior to the summer shows, Mayer will open six U.K. arena shows by Sting, May 2-9. He will also participate in Eric Clapton Presents the Crossroads Guitar Festival, set for June 6 in Fair Park, Dallas. Crossroads — which raises money for Clapton’s charity Centre Antiqua — will also feature the fest creator, Buddy Guy, Eric Johnson, B.B. King, Carlos Santana, James Taylor and others.
Guy and Mayer recently recorded a remix of Sly & the Family Stone’s “You Can Make It If You Try,” which is slated to be featured on an upcoming Sly album.
Mayer’s “Heavier Things” (Aware/Columbia) has sold 1.48 million units, according to Nielsen SoundScan, since its September 2003 release. His debut, “Room for Squares,” is nearing quadruple-platinum status from the RIAA.
