James Corden video-called his pal John Legend on Monday night (March 30) to kick off Homefest, an hourlong CBS special to raise money for those affected by the coronavirus and see some of our favorite artists do what they do best from the comfort of their own homes.
Corden’s Late Late Show has been off the air for the past few weeks amid the coronavirus pandemic, and we reunited with him in his garage, where he promised performances from across the globe — from Dua Lipa in London to BTS in South Korea — before calling up Legend down the street in Los Angeles at the bench of his home piano. The singer/songwriter talked about the toughest part of the quarantine (“You gain a new respect for what preschool teachers do for five, six hours a day. … We’re struggling,” he laughed) and we even got a cameo from wife Chrissy Teigen as John regaled James with the family’s nightly menu (apple pie, roasted chicken and potatoes, banana bread — “We’re gaining weight and we love it”).
Legend decided to perform his latest single “Actions,” just released on March 20, but stripped it down to a sultry piano ballad. While the song is about a romantic relationship, the chorus of “actions speak louder than love songs” can apply to this uncertain time of needing people on the front lines more than ever.
Other performers slated for the show include Andrea Bocelli and Billie Eilish and Finneas.
