
John Legend and Common have both released statements following their Golden Globe Best Original Song nomination for “Glory,” from the film Selma.
“Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for recognizing ‘Glory’ with a nomination for Best Original Song!,” Legend said in a statement. “Common and I wrote this song for Selma as a labor of love in honor of this magnificent film and the incredible men and women whose struggle the film chronicles. As we continue to march for justice and equality in 2014, we are so inspired by their work.”

“I don’t even know if I can express how excited I am to be nominated for a Golden Globe alongside John Legend for our song ‘Glory,'” Common said in a statement. “To be here with John Legend whom I love and respect so much makes the moment even more meaningful. We created ‘Glory’ from our hearts and being a part of Selma has been a life changing experience. Congratulations to all the other nominees and and congratulations to my Selma family. “Glory,” which you can listen to below, will compete against “Big Eyes” (Big Eyes), “Mercy Is” (Noah) “Opportunity” (Annie), and “Yellow Flicker Beat” (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part I).
