President Donald Trump won impeachment acquittal on Wednesday (Feb. 5), ending the third presidential trial in American history.
The Senate voted 52-48 favoring acquittal on the first article of impeachment, abuse of power. It voted 53-47 in favor of acquittal on the second, obstruction of Congress.
Since the result, a number of celebrities have taken to Twitter to voice their thoughts and concerns. In particular, many expressed support for Utah Senator Mitt Romney, who put principle over party and cast the lone Republican vote to remove Trump from office, making him the only senator in history to vote to remove the president of his own party.

Good for Mitt Romney. https://t.co/MxgcbVNjDv

#Trump’s learned nothing from the experience of being impeached. He will continue his criminal ways & then double down, knowing he’s gotten away with it once again. He will be like Robert Mugabwe, dictator of Zimbabwe, who lasted 40 YEARS, dying at 95, with his nation in ruins.

Run, #Mitt, RUN!!

It was amazing to see so many dribbling, irrelevant old farts struggle to their feet so many times last night. I was worried about several of them, who looked like they needed a gurney and an IV!!

Thank you, @MittRomney, for doing what EVERYONE KNOWS is the right thing to do—in spite of peer pressure to do the wrong thing. History will look kindly upon you for choosing to protect America.

I’d like to thank the Democratic senators who face tough re-election races in states that Trump won who, like Mitt Romney, voted to do the right thing and convict this criminal of a president. They are examples of courage and principle over politics as well.

Proud of this guy. I drove people to the polls in Alabama because I believed in him. And I will do it again.

Today’s bogus aquittal of that man just further proves that this government system is broken & these “laws” we seek to uphold & defend are only applicable if you are not a rich white man. All today showed us is that you can lie, cheat, & con your way into power w/o consequence.
— Lauren Jauregui (@LaurenJauregui) February 6, 2020
Actually, the system is not broken, I’ve misspoken. The system is functioning EXACTLY as it was created. To protect and coddle white men in power and special interests of corporate America. Stay awake and register to vote.

R u aware you’re tweeting about being a dictator? Oh wait true…the Senate just let you know you could be.
This should scare us all. https://t.co/ZrqX1shMxC— Lauren Jauregui (@LaurenJauregui) February 6, 2020
My dad always told me, “honey, if you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything. And sometimes you may have to stand alone on that mountain… are you brave enough to do that?” And I said “yes, daddy sir. I am.” https://t.co/BPZ3VvkvKR
