Nicky Jams In English
Is Nicky Jam Latin music’s next crossover star? A source says RCA Records is in talks to release an English-language version of the Puerto Rican reggaeton artist’s “El Perdon” (Forgiveness), which features Enrique Iglesias. The original Spanish-language track, released by RCA’s sister label Sony U.S. Latin, has spent 15 weeks atop Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart. The track got a big bump from its widely watched music video, which was filmed largely in the poorest neighborhoods of Medellin, Colombia, the city where Jam made his home several years ago. The official video already has more than 124 million YouTube views.

Mischa Barton Checks Out the Allah-Las
Actress Mischa Barton went unrecognized in the crowd at The Surf Lodge in Montauk, N.Y., as she watched Los Angeles-based band the Allah-Las perform Saturday (June 27) at the boutique hotel on Long Island’s East End. With the band playing in light rain on the deck, the actress occasionally sought shelter inside the lodge’s restaurant where actress Rosario Dawson dined with her adopted daughter and four of the teenager’s friends. A witness says that, at one point, Dawson’s daughter sat on her mom’s lap and kissed her cheek.

Getting Colorful With St. Vincent, Ad-Rock and More
Choreographer and dance legend Mark Morris caught David Byrne‘s Contemporary Color show, which featured color guard teams performing to the live music of St. Vincent, Lucius, Tune-Yards Ad-Rock and Money Mark, among others at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. on June 27. New Zealand indie pop artist Kimbra checked out the show the following day, posting video on her Instagram account and writing: “That was so fantastically weird and wonderful…thanks to David Byrne.” Byrne spoke to Billboard recently about the idea to mash up color guards high-energy performances from artists. “Color guard teams’ passions are high; we want that reflected in the music, too,” he said.
