Australian rock act Jet is recording its sophomore Elektra album in Los Angeles with producer Dave Sardy, who was behind the boards for its 2003 breakthrough, “Get Born.” The band has spent nearly a year writing material for the as-yet-untitled project and says it has “27 songs in the pipeline.”
“We have taken a long time with this baby, because every time we got together, more and more songs piled on, so we couldn’t decide which ones to work on,” the band writes on its official Web site. “Not the worst of problems.”
Writing sessions have taken place in Barbados, Brookfield, Mass., Los Angeles and Melbourne. No release date has yet been announced for the album, but the band says “it will definitely be somewhere mid-year.”
“We are working to make this record a record to remember, and although it has been long and been sometimes difficult, the end result will be worth it all,” the band says.
“Get Born” has sold 1.56 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It spawned the single “Are You Gonna Be My Girl,” which reached No. 3 on Billboard’s Modern Rock chart.
