With Little Mix in the rearview, Jesy Nelson launches her solo career with some help from the Queen of Rap.
Nelson today (Oct. 8) releases her debut single “Boyz”, featuring Nicki Minaj.
On it, the Trinidadian hip-hop star unleashes an action-pack verse, and an outro. “It’s Nicki and Jesy,” she raps. “He love me, impress me/ Ready to knock a motherf—er out just to impress me.”
The ex-girl group member first announced the collaboration between her and Minaj on Sept. 28, by teasing fans with a behind-the-scenes snippet of her filming the “Boyz” music video, and, later, shared its cover art.
“Boyz” marks Nelson’s first release since she announced her departure from Little Mix last year, citing the “toll on my mental health,” she wrote in a statement at the time. “I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard.”
Since leaving the group, Nelson feels “in control of my life,” she told Glamour U.K. for the October edition’s cover story.
