Indie folk item Jenny Lewis and Johnathan Rice have been confirmed as the songwriting team for the upcoming musical/drama, “Song One,” which will star Academy Award Winner, Anne Hathaway.
The duo already has a collection of original tunes for the film, as well as plans to score the upcoming picture. Since 2010, Lewis and Rice have been performing under the moniker Jenny and Johnny. That same year, they released their first studio album, “I’m Having Fun Now.” They first began performing together in 2006 when Rice joined Lewis’ touring band and performed on her solo debut, “Rabbit Fur Coat.”
No strangers to the silver screen themselves, Lewis and Rice have both had multiple stints in acting. Lewis took on dozens of small movie and television roles in the late ’90s, while Rice portrayed rock legend Roy Orbison in the hit Johnny Cash biopic, “Walk the Line.”
Over the past decade Lewis has worked with a slew of other artists, including Bright Eyes, Elvis Costello and Wavves. This summer, Lewis will be joining the newly reunited Postal Service, with whom she sang on their critically-acclaimed (and only) album, “Give Up,” on their highly-anticipated summer tour.
The film’s plot is about a young woman who falls for her ailing brother’s favorite musician, who will be played by British folk artist, Johnny Flynn. The movie will begin filming in New York City later this month.
