Samantha Barbash filed a federal lawsuit against Jennifer Lopez’s production company Nuyorican Productions, STX Entertainment, Gloria Sanchez Productions and Pole Sisters LLC. According to the court documents obtained by People, Barbash claimed movie “exploited” her likeness and character for the lead role, Lopez’s Ramona. Barbash is seeking $20 million in compensatory damages and $20 million in punitive damages.
Barbash claims the film portrayed her in a negative light while showing Lopez’s character “using and manufacturing illegal substances in her home where she lived with her child.” She also alleges producers attempted to “obtain a consent and waiver from Ms. Barbash for the production of the film.”
Hustlers is based on a true story about NYC strippers who drugged their clients and ran up their credit card bills, detailed in a 2015 New York Magazine article.
