A stunning roster of Mexican stars–including leading diva Jenni Rivera, leading finalists Gerardo Ortiz and Larry Hernandez, Julión Alvarez y su Nortño Banda, iconic group Intocable, Grupo Montez de Durango, Banda Los Recoditos, Los Horóscopos de Durango, Shaila Durcal and Paquita La Del Barrio-are the first group of artists announced as performers for the first-ever Premios Billboard de la Música Mexicana (Billboard Mexican Music Awards), produced by Telemundo and presented by State Farm.
Also scheduled to perform are up-and-comers Tribal Monterrey, El Bebeto, America Sierra and Voz de Mando. The show, honoring the albums, songs and most popular singers of regional Mexican music as measured by the Billboard charts, will take place at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles and will air nationwide on Telemundo Oct. 27.
Finalists and winners of awards are determined by chart performance on Billboard’s regional Mexican charts as chronicled in Billboard Magazine and on billboard.com from Aug. 28, 2010 through Aug. 20, 2011.
Award categories are based exclusively on sales data provided by Nielsen SoundScan and radio airplay monitored by Nielsen BDS. A total of 32 awards will be given including publisher, publishing corporation, producer, songwriter, Album and airplay imprint of the year, and Album and airplay label of the year. Awards will be given to the top artists and songs overall in regional Mexican music, and also in each of four subgenres: ranchera/mariachi, norteño, banda and duranguense/grupero.
