It’s been two years since Jaymes Young released his debut album, Feel Something. A few singles have been released since, but on Friday (July 12), Young returned with a brand new track, the reflective “Happiest Year.”
“Oh, love, I couldn’t quit/And I’m down on my knees again/Thank you for the happiest year of my life,” the 27-year-old crooner belts his characteristically emotive vocals over a somber piano melody.

“Happiest Year is a song I wrote about trying to see things from a more positive perspective, no matter how troubling they feel,” Young said of the tune in a statement. “During the writing process I tried to express gratitude and understanding towards experiences that had also left a potential for bitterness and resentment. I’d rather reflect on the good times when I can, but sometimes that’s easier said than done. I spent a lot of days over the past year writing and reflecting on who I am as an artist and what’s important to me. With that I can say I’m coming back to music officially. I don’t know exactly what that will look like a year from now but I’m going to take my days one at a time, staying present in the moments in which I create. Thanks to everyone who stuck around while I took some time for myself.”
