Days after his Best of Both Worlds tour with R. Kelly was canceled, Jay-Z has reversed course and opted to continue playing shows under the banner Jay-Z and Friends. The next performance will take place Friday (Nov. 5) in Miami, where Jay-Z will be joined by P. Diddy and Mary J. Blige, among others.
A full itinerary for the rest of the tour was not available at deadline. The Best of Both Worlds trek was due to run through a Nov. 28 show in Glendale, Ariz., before it fell apart.
The tour was thrown into disarray on Friday, after Kelly walked off the stage at New York’s Madison Square Garden claiming he’d seen two men in the audience brandishing guns. Later in the evening, he claims he was attacked with pepper spray backstage by members of Jay-Z’s entourage.
On Monday, the artist filed a $75 million lawsuit against Jay-Z for compensatory and punitive damages. Jay-Z finished out the Madison Square Garden run that night with assistance from such superstars as Snoop Dogg, the Neptunes’ Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, Busta Rhymes, Fabolous and Q-Tip.
In a bizarre twist, Jay-Z and Kelly’s second collaborative album, “Unfinished Business,” debuts this week at No. 1 on The Billboard 200.
