RuPaul’s Drag Race may be in off-season, but Fusion has a new show to satiate your need for drag queens on the TV screen: Shade: Queens of NYC. The 12-episode series shows the grittier side of drag and follows around some of the biggest names in Manhattan nightlife: Brita Filter, Chelsea Piers, Holly Box-Springs, Jada Valenciaga, Jasmine Rice LaBeija, Marti Gould Cummings, Paige Turner and Tina Burner are among the talent featured.
Ahead of tomorrow’s premiere, Billboard can exclusively premiere a timely scene from the first episode, where Jasmine Rice LaBeija sings the National Anthem. Given the ongoing controversy surrounding athletes choosing to kneel during the anthem, this scene — set against a backdrop of protests — is particularly powerful.
Shade: Queens of NYC premieres Thursday night (Oct. 5) at 10:30 p.m. on Fusion TV.
