Jared Leto of Thirty Seconds To Mars announced this morning (April 2) that he will embark on a cross-country journey called “Mars Across America” in celebration of the band’s fifth album America, which will be released April 6 via Interscope Records.
Leto will depart from New York City later today and will travel across the country however he needs — whether it’s hitchhiking, Lyft rides, bicycles or Forrest Gump-like running — and will visit destinations that showcase the subject behind the band’s new album. In addition, Leto will hand out genetic testing kits from 23andMe to fans along the route, encouraging fans to discover more about their heritage. The week-long journey will end in the bands hometown of Los Angeles on Friday, April 6 for the albums’ release day.
The band recently unveiled the title and track listing for America, which includes features from Halsey and A$AP Rocky, as well as a Zedd-produced track titled “Dangerous Night.” The band also announced The Monolith Tour, which will kick off June 6 and feature opening sets from K. Flay and Walk the Moon.
In other news, the band’s latest music video for their single “Walk on Water,” features a sneak peek at Jared Leto’s upcoming documentary A Day in the Life of America, which was filmed on the same day in all 50 states. The goal of the film is to present a unique portrait of America on a single day.
