Leading Japanese Internet service provider Nifty has launched an online music distribution service.
Dubbed Moocs, the service began operating Oct. 31. Some 150,000 domestic tracks are available via the service at an average cost of ¥200 ($1.71) each. Nifty says the repertoire will rise to 200,000 by the end of the year.
In order to use the service, users require bespoke software such the Moocs Player and the SD-Jukebox V5.0, both of which are based on Matsushita’s SD-Jukebox V5.0 LE software.
Downloaded music can be played on PCs or downloaded to memory cards, which can be inserted into SD-Audio enabled cell phones or SD-Audio (AAC) enabled portable music players.
Moocs uses Toshiba’s MQbic digital rights management system.
