Japan’s AK-69 is set to drop a new album, called THE ANTHEM, on Feb. 27, the follow-up to DAWN, released on Def Jam Recordings in 2016.
The highly anticipated new project by the singer-songwriter/rapper will be a collection of 11 anthemic numbers, including the self-affirming “I Still Shine feat. Che’Nelle“; his moving tribute to his late father, “Stronger”; and eight new songs.
AK-69 dropped the first single from the upcoming set called “The Red Magic Beyond” on Dec. 17. The bold, soaring new number is a continuation of the rapper’s hit song “The Red Magic” from 2011, and is the official theme song of the Nagoya Diamond Dolphins, a professional basketball team based in AK-69’s hometown.
Two types of limited first editions of THE ANTHEM will be made available along with the regular version. Type A will come with a collection of music videos of his releases on Def Jam, including “Flying B” and “ONE LIFE,” featuring the Japanese rock band UVERworld. Type B will come with the live recording of his current domestic tour.
