Japanese rockers ONE OK ROCK are set to release their new studio album, Eye of the Storm, next year. The English CD and digital release will drop Feb. 15 worldwide, while the Japanese version will become available only in Japan two days earlier.
The band also released the music video accompanying its latest song off the upcoming set, “Stand Out Fit In.” The track was inspired by the concept visuals of Honda’s “Go, Vantage Point.” campaign, and is the band’s third to be used in the commercial.
The song is about being yourself despite the voices around you that tell you to be a certain way. “Be this, be that/ I’ve heard it all before,” sings frontman Taka. “Big boys don’t cry/ Shoot low, aim high/ Eat up, stay thin/ Stand out, fit in.”
The music video depicts the life of an East Asian boy who attends school in a multi-cultural neighborhood. As a boy, he appears to be a smart, quiet type and is being mildly bullied and mocked for being different, but he grows into a boisterous teenager with a circle of partying friends. After the teens are involved in a DUI car crash, however, we see that they are actually a figment of the young boy’s imagination, who is wondering what it would be like to be someone he isn’t.
The four-member band’s new project will feature 13 tracks, including “Stand Out Fit In” and “Change,” the song previously used in the Honda campaign. The track list also includes a song featuring singer-songwriter Kiiara called “In the Stars.”
“Stand Out Fit In” is now available on iTunes, while Eye of the Storm can be pre-ordered. ONE OK ROCK will travel Stateside shortly after the release of the new album for another massive North American tour, kicking off Feb. 19, 2019, in Salt Lake City and playing 25 concerts until the final show March 30 in Honolulu.
