Japan’s MAN WITH A MISSION performed two nights at the Yokohama Arena on Tuesday and Wednesday (May 21-22), as extra shows of the masked rockers’ first arena tour called Chasing the Horizon, continuing from last year.
The Tuesday show was met with heavy rain, which prompted vocalist/ rapper/ guitarist Jean-Ken Johnny to kick off the show by thanking fans for showing up under such bad weather conditions.
The first night of the Yokohama engagement featured songs from the four-member band’s fifth album, Chasing the Horizon, released June 2018, with some new songs from the upcoming CD single, including the title track “Remember Me,” “FLY AGAIN 2019,” and “Left Alive” thrown into the mix.
The Tuesday night crowd was also treated to a big surprise, with some unexpected special guests joining the four wolves onstage to say hello. “Remember Me” is being featured as the opener of the Fuji TV drama series Radiation House, and the cast from the show — Masataka Kubota, Tsubasa Honda, Alice Hirose, Kenta Hamano, Tomomi Maruyama, Masato Yano, Sayaka Yamaguchi and Kenichi End? — all came to pay tribute to the band.
The audience broke into wild cheers and applause when Kubota addressed the crowd with a simple, “How’s it going, fans of MAN WITH A MISSION?” Johnny seemed puzzled by the overwhelming reaction, and teased the crowd: “This is the most excited you’ve sounded tonight!”
Johnny took time mid-show to make sure fans knew they were appreciated. “We started this band nine years ago, but never imagined that we’d be able to play two days at the Yokohama arena with so many people in attendance,” he said humbly. “We really appreciate so many of you coming to see us.”
MAN WITH A MISSION’s Chasing the Horizon World Tour continues through June. The band will travel to the U.K. for a solo-headlining show June 12 and will perform at Download Festival in Donington Park on June 14.
