Japanese pop-rock band back number kicked off its 36-concert domestic solo-headlining arena tour Saturday (April 20) at the ECOPA Arena in Shizuoka.
The NO MAGIC arena tour is the band’s first since its sold-out five-stop Stay With You dome trek last year. Fans flocked to the 10,000-capacity venue to see the three-piece band in action, and broke out in massive cheers and applause from the moment the members stepped onstage and launched the show.
The 21-song main set featured songs from the band’s latest album, MAGIC, including leading singles “Old Fashion,” “HAPPY BIRTHDAY,” and their popular banger “Daifuseikai,” the theme of the hit movie Gintama 2, along with past hits such as “Takane no Hanako san,” “SISTER,” and more.
Frontman Iyori Shimizu welcomed the opening-day crowd, touching on the meaning of the tour title. “Maybe some of you happen to be here on the first day because you live nearby, or maybe you aimed to score tickets because it’s the first day,” he joked.
“About what ‘MAGIC‘ and ‘NO MAGIC’ stand for… Today is the beginning, and I’m hoping we can discover together things like how the songs can be arranged and other ways of interpreting them. We’ll enjoy ourselves as much as we can because we want you to enjoy yourselves to the end.”
back number’s 18-stop, 36-show NO MAGIC Tour continues for five months until the final stop at the Okinawa Convention Center Exhibition Hall on Sept. 20 and 21.
