Janet Jackson postponed last night’s (July 18) concert in Milwaukee just hours before showtime after suffering what promoters called an injury that required emergency dental surgery. Jackson’s official Web site notes only that the singer “was regretfully forced to cancel her performance” at the city’s Bradley Center, and that “Janet apologizes to her Milwaukee fans.”
Local TV station WTMJ reported Jackson chipped a tooth and had to undergo a root canal. A Bradley Center spokesperson said Jackson’s accident occurred sometime yesterday afternoon while setting up the show.
Some disappointed fans got the news after arriving at the downtown Bradley Center. Promoters told fans to keep their tickets because they hope the concert can be rescheduled. “It’s kind of disappointing, but we understand,” said Denyal Behn, 19, who drove three hours from Stevens Point to Milwaukee for the concert.
The Milwaukee date is the second on Jackson’s tour to not go off as planned. As previously reported, the tour’s scheduled July 5 opening in Vancouver was postponed when part of the massive set failed to arrive in time. That show was made up a few days later on July 9.
Jackson’s trek — her first since 1998’s Velvet Rope Tour — comes in support of her latest Virgin album “All for You,” which debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 in May, and is at No. 20 in its 10th week on the chart.
