Owen’s previous top 10s on the radio chart include “Startin’ With Me” (No. 6, 2007), “Don’t Think I Can’t Love You” (No. 2, 2009), “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” (two weeks at No. 1, 2011) and “Alone With You” (two weeks at No. 1 in April). He also takes the Hot Shot Debut at No. 2 on Country Albums with a four-song EP titled “Endless Summer.” With a limited quantity of CDs shipped to retailers, 91% of the title’s 17,000 sold copies were digital downloads.
Elsewhere on Country Albums, 2001 Country Music Hall of Fame honoree Waylon Jennings posts his best rank 22 years on Top Country Albums, as “Goin’ Down Rockin’: The Last Recordings” debuts at No. 14 with 6,000 sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Jennings, who died ten years ago of diabetes complications, hasn’t charted this high since “Wrong” peaked at No. 5 in the summer of 1990. His chart history includes 11 No. 1’s on Country Albums between 1975-86, and 16 leaders from 1974-87 on Country Songs.
Taylor Swift pads her lead for the most top 10 debuts in the Hot 100’s 54-year history, as “Begin Again” launches at No. 7. The song, which starts atop Digital Songs with 299,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan, is her record-extending ninth to arrive in the Hot 100’s top tier. “Begin” is the second preview single from Swift’s fourth studio album, “Red,” due Oct. 22. First track “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” became her first Hot 100 No. 1, blasting 72-1 the week of Sept. 1 and reigning for three non-consecutive frames.
Next week, Swift should log another lofty Hot 100 debut with the title track from “Red.” Swift made her highest-ranking Hot 100 start with “Today Was a Fairytale,” which opened at No. 2 the week of Feb. 6, 2010. “Mine” marked her next-best positional bow, soaring in at No. 3 the week of Aug. 21, 2010. The latter song served as the lead single from her last studio album, “Speak Now.” She also ropes the Hot Shot Debut at No. 37 on Country Songs with “Begin .” Down 31% from the previous Nielsen BDS tracking week, lead single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” takes a seventh-week 15-21 slide on Country Songs.
Also noteworthy on Country Songs, Luke Bryan brings more fresh air to the upper tier with “Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye,” which jumps 13-10 to become the artist’s ninth top 10 contender. The track also sells 32,000 on Country Digital Songs, where it ranks at No. 10 in its eighth chart week.
Country Albums is led for a third week by Little Big Town‘s “Tornado,” which sells 34,000 as the title track and second radio single debuts at No. 47.
