Just before Donald Trump is sworn into office Friday (Jan. 20), Jaden Smith and Shia LaBeouf wanted to make sure they played their part in protesting the incoming president.
Setting up a camera on the side of the Museum of the Moving Image in New York City, the pair call their interactive art installation “a show of resistance or insistence, opposition or optimism.” As described on the project’s website, “The public is invited to deliver the words ‘HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US’ into a camera mounted on a wall outside the Museum of the Moving Image, New York, repeating the phrase as many times, and for as long as they wish.”
The project began at 9:00 a.m. ET, with Smith taking part in the installation himself. A live stream of the project can be viewed at hewillnotdivide.us.
According to the website, the live stream will be “open to all” 24 hours a day, seven days a week and live streamed continuously for the next four years — the duration of Trump’s presidency: “In this way, the mantra ‘HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US’ acts as a show of resistance or insistence, opposition or optimism, guided by the spirit of each individual participant and the community.”
