British singer-songwriter Jade Bird sat down with Billboard to help fans get to know a bit more about her as part of the “You Should Know” video series.
“Why should people listen to my music? Because it’s great,” she says with a laugh. “And it’s a journey, I think, ultimately that I want people to be a part of and if you’re a part of something from the start, you know, it’s always better when you see the finish, I guess.”
Asked what the best advice she has ever received is, Bird says it is to focus on herself as opposed to watching what other people around her are doing. “I’m a bit of a Youtube vortex comparer,” she says. “I’ll watch loads of artists’ videos and performances, and sometimes, it’s healthy, you know to improve yourself and sometimes you get a bit wrapped up in it.”
Her favorite album of all time, Bird tells Billboard, is Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill, which she calls a “faultless album.”
The singer also reveals that if she were an animal, she would be a cat and that if a genie could grant her one wish, she would ask for a green card so she could stay in the States longer.
