Guests who walked onto the fourth floor Wet Deck of W hotel in Las Vegas on Sept. 22 were greeted with a DJ set courtesy of Brittany Sky. From Lana Del Rey to Michael Jackson, the genre and decade-defying blend suited the sunny afternoon.
Sky was the first to perform at Next Up: New Artists, New Music concert series, a partnership between Billboard and W Hotels that brings emerging musicians to New York, Las Vegas and Santiago, Chile. This event in particular kicked off Life Is Beautiful weekend in Vegas (Sept. 22-24).
After guests snacked on mini ice cream cones, tacos and more while hanging in the cabanas and by the pool, Jacob Banks — “the future of U.K. soul,” as Pablo Henderson, director of brand and marketing at the W said — took the stage.
The U.K. singer delivered three tracks from his soulful R&B catalogue as a preview of his Saturday performance at the festival. Following his set, Tukker, of the duo Sofi Tukker, brought the event full circle with his own high-energy, bass booming DJ set, turning the rooftop space into an afternoon dance party.
The Next Up: New Artists, New Music series will showcase a total of three artists with performances open to W Hotel insiders, members of the Starwood Preferred Guests rewards program and lucky fans selected through sweepstakes.
