Jackson 5 member Jackie Jackson has formed Beverly Hills, Calif.-based Futurist Entertainment, Billboard Bulletin reports. Futurist houses Jackson’s new Jesco Records label; a publishing company; an animation division; and the official Jackson 5 Web site, J5Family.com, due to launch in March.
In the meantime, Jackson is beginning work on a new record featuring all his brothers, including Michael. The set is still in the early stages, with the brothers reviewing material and writing. Jackson says they are in talks with various labels to release the album, adding that it will not be on MJJ/Epic, as was previously reported.
The first signings to Jesco are 17-year-old Las Vegas-based R&B/pop singer Daen and Thousand Oaks, Calif.-based teen Lauren Evans. Jackson says he is also looking at signing “established artists. There are a lot of them out there who still have followings but no longer have deals because of all the mergers.” The label is shopping for distribution. Among the contenders, he says, are WEA and Universal.
