Jack White stepped up to the plate to help renovate the historic Hamtramck Stadium near his hometown of Detroit, Michigan. The ballpark is one of the last remaining Negro League baseball venues in the United States.
The White Stripes frontman donated $10,000 to the new crowdfunding campaign to restore the stadium, according to WDET. Launched by crowdfunding platform Patroncity, the campaign is hoping to reach its goal of $50,000.
“Hamtramck Stadium is one of just five remaining locations where major Negro League teams once played their home games and represents a historic period in the Detroit community,” Friends of Historic Hamtramck Stadium founder Gary Gillette said in a statement on the stadium’s website.
