Jack Vidgen isn’t so much a shooting star. Rather, the Aussie singer is like a comet that returns every so often, lighting up TV screens.
Hailing from Sydney, the baby-faced blonde first leapt into the public spotlight at the age of 14 when he won season five of Australia’s Got Talent way back in 2011.
He promptly disappeared from sight, and wouldn’t reappear for another five years. When he did, singing last June on Australia’s The Voice, his return was a rating bonanza.
Now aged 22, Jack stepped back onto the big stage Monday night for season 2 of America’s Got Talent: The Champions, where he delivered a soulful rendition of Lauren Daigle’s “You Stay” — high notes and all.
“You have the talent, you have the voice. You just need the confidence,” said an enthusiastic judge Howie Mandel.
Simon Cowell offered some constructive criticism. “I think you have an extraordinary voice. But, that was way too safe. I think you are way, way better than that. I’m hoping that the super-fans vote you through to the next round because there’s way more to come from you. Way more.” We’ll see.
