
As news broke of Cream bassist Jack Bruce’s death on Saturday (Oct. 25) at the age of 71, the music world paid tribute to the virtuoso bassist, bandleader, songwriter and singer on social media.

“It is with great sadness that we, Jack’s family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father, granddad, and all around legend,” Bruce’s family posted on his website. “The world of music will be a poorer place without him, but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts.”
Bruce served as one-third of the 1960s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame supergroup Cream, alongside guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker. He wrote and sang many of the band’s songs, including “I Feel Free”, “White Room” and “Sunshine Of Your Love.”
