Everyone knows winners aren’t defined by a lack of failure, but rather by how many times they failed and refused to be defeated. No one is without trials, and no musician with a hit is without a few hard falls. J. Worra and Codes are two rising scenesters who’ve been there, done that, and now, they bring you a “Bounce Back” jam with Sophiegrophy so jiggy, it turns the good fight into a dance party.
This collaboration came about after the producers hopped on an impromptu back-to-back in Chicago. The set was a jam, and they figured why not bring the vibe to the studio? “Bounce Back” packs a booming bass rhythm against bootylicious synths and bossy-freshness from the Aussie rapper. The tune has been a slayer in both DJs’ sets and was signed to Gorgon City’s label Realm.
“Bounce Back is a very special record for me,” J. Worra tells Billboard Dance. “I’ve wanted to work together with Sophiegrophy since 2017 and Cody (Codes) is a great friend of mine. ‘Bounce Back’ began as an instrumental I sent to Sophie for her to write vocals to. Cody and I then tossed the project back and forth to get the production right. There’s nothing like writing music with people all over the globe – this one traveled from NYC to LA to Australia.”
“This tune is about being relentless,” Codes adds. “We all go through shit. We all get knocked down or someone pulls one over on us, but it’s how hard you ‘Bounce Back’ that really counts. Some of my best work has come from picking myself up from the hardest times of my life. This is that ‘get on up and come back harder than ever’ anthem.”
After the “Bounce Back,” do the give back with J. Worra as she heads out on a 23-date run of North America. It’s called the Just BeCause tour, and $2 of every ticket sold will be donated to a local charity, including Meals on Wheels, Humane Society, Hope House Colorado, Austin Pets Alive and others. The DJ will also give a personal donation from her own profits from any festival gigs to the Trevor Project.
“This tour is all about giving something back,” she says, “merging the worlds of philanthropy and supporting causes that are bigger than ourselves. I have selected a charity for each city we are visiting, with a focus on LGBTQ support, food accessibility, animal rescue/anti-cruelty, suicide prevention and more.”
“Bounce Back” is out on Gorgon City’s Realm label Friday, Feb. 28, but you can get to bumpin’ a day early thanks to the Billboard Dance exclusive below.
