J-MELO, Japan’s long-running, English-language music show (the only one of its kind in that country) has opened up online voting for its 10th annual “J-MELO Breakthrough Artist Showcase 2015.” Viewers around the globe are encouraged to watch video clips of the 48 selected acts on the website and vote for their favorite artist. Balloting will run through September 30.
J-MELO introduces Japanese artists to viewers around the globe (in over 150 countries and territories) through the international broadcast network NHK WORLD TV. The program’s senior producer, Nobuyuki Harada comments, “We have always wanted to showcase Japanese talent who showed interest and enthusiasm in crossing over to the international market and now, with the utilization of our website to promote the Breakthrough Artist Showcase, we are able to expand our reach to more countries and garner more votes from around the world.”
To qualify for the Showcase, artists should have a recording history dating back to 2013 that includes at least one original song. Due to overwhelming interest and submissions, the 48 acts in contention are the most in the competition’s history.
