The nominations for Britan’s Ivor Novello Awards have been announced, with Ed Sheeran and Stormzy leading the pack.
Stormzy is nominated for Best Contemporary Song with “Don’t Cry For Me (feat. Raleigh Ritchie)” along with the Album Award for his well-received debut Gang Signs & Prayers. Sheeran, on the other hand, is nominated twice in the Music Most Performed Work category, which “credits works that received the most broadcast, online and general performance in the UK during 2017.” Sheeran’s nominated works, “Castle On The Hill” and “Shape Of You,” were in the UK’s Official Top 5 biggest songs of 2017.
“[The] nominations are, as ever, a mirror of the eclectic and inspirational reach of current UK music,” said Crispin Hunt, Chair of the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers & Authors. Other nominations for Best Song Musically and Lyrically include Sampha’s “No One Knows Me,” and Elbow’s “Magnificent (She Says).”
Hosted by Paul Gambaccini, the award ceremony will be held at the Grosvenor House in London on May 31.
