Ivanka Trump joined in the praise for Oprah Winfrey’s speech at the Golden Globes on Sunday night (Jan. 7), describing it as “empowering” and “inspiring” but her tweet was quickly met with a furious Twitter backlash.
Winfrey’s soaring speech, which set off talk of a possible presidential run, earned near-universal praise. Trump tweeted her fulsome approval on Monday night, and exalted everyone to “come together, women and men and say #TimesUp.” She also added the hashtag #United.

The response to Trump’s tweet was immediate and ranged from mockery to disgust. The tweet was quickly hit with “the ratio,” that is the number of replies vastly outnumbered the likes, and the replies were overwhelmingly negative.
Many responses felt Trump’s tweet was tone deaf and lacking self-awareness, given the division created by her father Donald Trump’s administration’s policies, not to mention the acrimony created by the president’s words. People were also quick to point out that Donald Trump has been accused of sexual harassment and misconduct by as many as 17 women.
Chrissy Teigen was one of the many stars to respond directly, with a simple “ew go away.” Alyssa Milano directed Ivanka to the Time’s Up legal fund that will help her father’s accusers with their expenses.
Later on Monday, Michael Wolff, the author of the controversial best-seller Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, was asked about Ivanka’s tweet during an appearance on MSNBC’s The Last Word. Wolff, who has suggested in his book that Ivanka is eyeing a presidential run of her own sometime in the future, responded pithily: “Who does she think her father is? What does she think this White House is about?”

This is the most hypocritical, clueless statement in her regrettable time in the WH. Your father has a trail of victims and supported Roy Moore, Ivanka. YOU are indeed part of the problem Ivanka. #complicit

This is the most brazen cognitive dissonance I’ve seen since whatever the last thing your declining dad did.

Great! You can make a lofty donation to the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund that is available to support your father’s accusers.https://t.co/A8HCVa715v

Honestly Ivanka, it took a staggering level of heinous idiocy for you to post this tweet.
