Eros Ramazzotti, Luciano Ligabue, Elisa, Miguel Bosé, Biagio Antonacci and Zucchero have been confirmed to perform at the second edition of Italy’s Wind Music Awards, which will be held at Valle Giulia in Rome on June 3.
During the course of the evening, Italian artists will be up for prizes if they have sold more than 150,000 copies of an album, or 30,000 copies of a music DVD, between the period May 1, 2007 and May 30, 2008.
The ceremony will subsequently be broadcast on Italia Uno, one of the three TV stations owned by prime minister Silvio Berlusconi. It will be split into two parts, to air at 9.10 p.m. local time on June 4 and 5.
The show, which is sponsored by mobile phone company Wind, effectively fills the gap left by the absence of an official Italian music awards show.
Last year’s inaugural event was attended by many of Italy’s leading artists and representatives of the major labels. There were, however, complaints by PMI, the indie representative body, that the indies were under-represented and that the organization had not been consulted prior to the event. PMI has, however, been consulted with regard to this year’s edition.
