Rap mogul Irv Gotti and his attorney failed to appear in court Tuesday (Aug. 19) for Gotti’s arraignment in Oakland, Calif., on a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance, authorities said. Prosecutors were unable to contact Gotti’s attorney, Dennis Roberts, who’d said he was going to appear on his client’s behalf because Gotti lives in New York.
The CEO of Murder Inc. Records, whose given name is Irving Lorenzo, was arrested Aug. 15 at a concert at the Oakland Arena for allegedly carrying a single dose of Ecstasy. Gotti posted $20,000 bail and was told to appear yesterday in Alameda County Superior Court.
Before passing through a metal detector at the Oakland Arena, Gotti took some items from his pants pocket and put them into a basket.
An Oakland police officer noticed a small clear plastic bag containing some pills. Gotti tried to put the bag back in his pocket before the officer stopped him. The package turned out to contain one Ecstasy pill and Viagra, police said. Authorities said Gotti has no prior criminal record.
