Irish singer/songwriter Christie Hennessy passed away in London on Tuesday.
The crooner, who released a string of platinum-selling albums in Ireland in the 1990s and penned hits for the likes of Christy Moore, was 62.
Hennessy had issued a career-spanning compilation “The Platinum Collection” (Warner Music) last February, and had almost completed work on a new studio album for Universal Music Ireland, which was slated for release in March 2008.
However, the singer was forced to cancel live dates in Ireland earlier this year because of ill health. His last shows took place in April.
Hennessy is best-known for his ballad “All The Lies That You Told Me” and the song “Don’t Forget Your Shovel,” which was inspired by his time working as a teenager on a London building site.
He is survived by his wife Jill, daughters Hermione and Amber, and his son Tim.
