Canada’s MuchMusic Video Awards, which have traditionally been held in September, will move to June starting next year, Billboard Bulletin reports. The next edition of the awards will take place June 16, 2002, in Toronto.
This year’s show, which was scheduled for Sept. 23, was cancelled due to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the U.S. The winners of this year’s awards will be honored in an hour-long taped special, set to premiere Wednesday (Dec. 19) on MuchMusic and MuchMusic USA
Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi stadium is to host next year’s MTV Europe Music Awards in November. It will be the first time the 8-year-old event will be staged in Spain. The 20,000-capacity Palau Sant Jordi, built for the 1992 Olympic Games, is now Spain’s premier indoor music venue.
November is also the traditional month for Spanish recording labels trade organization AFYVE’s annual Premios Amigo music awards in Madrid, as well as for radio group Cadena SER’s Premios Ondas ceremony in Barcelona.
The eighth annual Chinese Music Awards (CMA) will be held Jan. 25 at Beijing Capital Workers’ Gymnasium. Hong Kong-based Channel V, China Central Television (CCTV), and the Friendship Association of Chinese Culture, a body devoted to cultural exchange between the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, will sponsor the ceremony.
Chinese fans can vote for CMA winners online until Jan. 15.
Channel V Greater China, which claims to reach 21 million households in mainland China, 4 million in Taiwan, and 430,000 in Hong Kong, will broadcast the ceremony during prime time on Jan. 27. CCTV will broadcast the show on Feb. 12, the first day of the Chinese New Year holiday period.
