If dance music had an official calendar, the weekend in late May wherein EDC Las Vegas turns the Nevada desert into a glowing beacon of carnival-colored rave fantasy would be one of the lifestyle’s official holidays, but organizer Insomniac is much more than just a party promoter. The company now releases its own records and supports up-and-coming and established artists as a full-stop label with its own management and distribution.
Today (May 10), in celebration of the quick-approaching EDC Las Vegas 2019, Insomniac shares a jackin’, 33-track compilation featuring futuristic and retro-inspired sounds from some of the label’s most exiting beat makers on the festival lineup. This year’s comp includes tracks from Tokimonsta and Zhu, Party Favor with A$AP Ferg and Juicy J, Joyryde, Patrick Topping and more.
“Our annual EDC Las Vegas compilation is a major drop for us, and features the quality and diversity of all that the Insomniac Records team has been curating throughout the year,” Insomniac founder and ceo Pasquale Rotella tells Billboard Dance. “The launch of Insomniac Music Group was also a huge addition for us. We’ve brought on new artist imprints like Chris Lake’s Black Book, Slander & Nghtmre‘s Gud Vibrations, and Fisher’s Catch & Release, with a Grammy nomination for ‘Losing It,’” he says, adding that the Insomniac team has “even more amazing stuff lined up to close out the year.”
We’ve got the EDC Las Vegas 2019 compilation for you below, as well as some cool set recommendations from some of the comp’s featured artists playing the fest. Who are your favorite DJs pumped to see? Read on to find out.
Eric Prydz – “All the way, Eric Prydz. Still to this day, I haven’t seen one of his sets live, but I’ve heard only great things, and I can’t wait to check it out. He’s inspired me a ton throughout my career.”
Rezz – “I am impatiently waiting to see Rezz at my first ever EDC Vegas, when she plays Saturday. I’ve been a fan ever since I saw her open for Anna Lunoe at Webster Hall back in 2015. It’s truly amazing to see her journey so far. I remember thinking to myself, ‘she has a strong vision’ and I couldn’t wait to hear her next release.”
Lil Texas – “He’s easily the most exciting thing in american hardstyle right now, and you know I love some fast music — 200 bpm forever!”
Get Real (Green Velvet & Claude VonStroke) – “I’m truly looking forward to seeing Green Velvet and Claude Vonstroke do their thing at kinetic field as Get Real. They’re incredible pioneers of house music. fFrom its roots to its evolution, they both have deep respect for the craft, so I’m sure to find some great inspiration watching them.”
The Glitch Mob
Rezz – “We can’t wait to see Rezz at EDC. Her live sets are incredible, and there is nobody else like her.”
Lil Texas – “I’m stoked to catch Lil Texas, cuz he brings that 200bpm hardcore, texcore, diamond-Dallas sex appeal.”
i_o – “I’ve been trying to catch a set of his for months. I love the new spin he’s putting on techno, truly a creative and inspirational artist.”
Warface – “After hearing his newest record, I officially became a rawstyle fan. Not too often do we get real European rawstyle/hardcore acts over here, so it will be exciting to see his live set.”
Zhu – “Zhu is always thinking one step ahead of everyone else. He is such a diverse producer with a very unique vision for his music. His performances are always quite a journey, so i’d definitely recommend checking out his set.”
Eli Brown b2b Mason Maynard – “I love playing out both their records in my set. They both have really distinct sounds in Tech House which makes them stand out. Can’t wait to see what they do together.”
Eric Prydz – “For me, he is the epitome of sensory experience, and I absolutely love his shows. I’ve seen him in Ibiza but can’t wait to see him at EDC. I’m ready.”
A$AP Rocky – “Always been a fan since his early Live.Love mixtape. It’ll be vibes to watch him at EDC Vegas.”
Cirez D – “This side project by Eric Prydz is truly incredible. His song selections for his Cirez D appearances are second to none, and the energy is just clean, intense, and thrilling. Your jaw will drop many, many times – guaranteed.”
Zhu – “Because he’s the homie.”
A$AP Rocky – “I’m excited to see A$AP Rocky, because I like everything he’s doing; from the way he dresses to his music videos, to his production, to his lyrics. Everything is next level and pure art.”
Skream b2b Rusko (Old School Dubstep Set) – “Without a doubt, the set I’m most excited to see it Skream and Rusko doing an old school back to back set. They are two of my favorite DJs and producers for a long time, and Skream hasn’t been doing any dubstep sets in years. Dubstep has come a long way, so I’m interested to see what they play and how they show the new generation of where this all came from.”
EDC Las Vegas comes to the Motor Speedway Friday to Sunday, May 17 to 19. Listen to the 2019 compilation from Insomniac below.
