Rock act Hoobastank has pulled itself off the road due to an injury suffered by band member Dan Estrin. The guitarist needed surgery to remove a blood clot caused by a small fracture in his skull that was the result of a motorbike accident earlier this week in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
“We were riding these little mini-motorbikes around the parking lot, and Dan drove into a dark roped-off area by the buses,” vocalist Doug Robb explains in a statement. “The rope caught him in the chest and he fell and hit his head pretty hard on the ground.”
The band was in Myrtle Beach to perform at the House of Blues with Island labelmates Die Trying and Letter Kills.
Estrin is in serious but stable condition, according to the statement. It was originally thought the band would be back on the road for its Thursday (Sept. 4) show at Camp Lejeune, N.C., but an updated post on its official Web site announces that the entire trek, due to last through the end of September, has been called off.
“He’s going to be all right,” Robb adds. “We promise that we’ll make it up to our fans soon in these cities, but right now, I just want Dan to get healthy and back on his feet.”
Hoobastank will release its as-yet-untitled sophomore album Dec. 2 via Island. The Howard Benson (P.O.D., Blindside) -produced set will be led by first single “Out of Control,” due to be delivered to U.S. radio outlets in October for airplay consideration.
The album will be the follow up to the group’s 2001 self-titled debut, which peaked at No. 25 on The Billboard 200. The set spawned “Running Away” and “Crawling in the Dark,” both top-3 singles on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart and top-10 entries on the Mainstream Rock Tracks tally.
