Tributes have been paid to Kickin Records founder Peter Harris, following his death on Jan. 6 after a long illness.
The U.K. label was formed in 1988 and released early rave singles, going on to issue music by artists including Shut Up And Dance and Messiah, alongside the first EP by alternative rock act Echobelly. Kickin Records later became one of the labels under the umbrella company Kickin Music Ltd, which also includes Hardleaders, Stoned Asia and the publishing arm Haripa Music Publishing.
“Peter was a real character and a great guy to know,” says Matt Phillips, BPI director of communications. “But despite his great drive, passion and enthusiasm for the business, he was first and foremost a music lover and real family man. A key member of the BPI’s international committee for many years, he will be fondly remembered and sadly missed.”
Harris died after a two-year struggle with cancer. He is survived by his partner and three daughters.
The funeral will be held in London at 10:30 on Jan. 19 at All Saints Church, Clydesale Road, Notting Hill. Friends are welcome to attend, although his family have requested that instead of flowers, donations are made to the St Charles hospice in Exmoor Street, London, W10 6DZ. Cheques should be made payable to Pembridge Education Fund with a letter stating the donation is on behalf of Peter Harris.
