Modern rock act Incubus will hit the road Sept. 14 in advance of its fourth studio album, “Morning View” (Immortal/Epic). The tour will kick off at the Meadowbrook Amphtheatre in Gilford, N.H., and come to a close Dec. 1 at Los Angeles’ Universal Amphitheatre.
Due out Oct. 23, “Morning View” will be led by the single “Wish You Were Here.” A supporting video for the track will be directed by Phil Harder, who handled similar chores for the band’s “Stellar” and “Drive” clips. As previously reported, the band completed recording the set in May with producer Scott Litt (R.E.M.) behind the boards.
The set is the follow-up to the band’s Litt-produced 1999 breakthrough album “Make Yourself.” That album featured “Drive,” which topped Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart, and peaked at No. 8 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks tally. The set also spawned the singles “Stellar” (No. 2 Modern, No. 17 Mainstream) and “Pardon Me” (No. 3 Modern, No. 7 Mainstream). “Make Yourself” peaked at No. 47 on The Billboard 200, and was recently certified double-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for U.S. shipments of 2 million copies.
Tickets to the tour will carry a top price of just $25, thanks to a promotional tie-in with AT&T Wireless’ M3 (Maximum Mobile Music) for 30 of the trek’s 43 dates. With purchase of a wireless phone and qualified service plan, fans can get a VIP aXess Pack with two tickets and VIP passes to meet the band. Anyone taking part in the promotion will be entered into a contest to win a trip to the final show on the tour, with plane tickets, accommodations, a limo to the show, and a chance to hang out backstage with the band. “This is our first headline tour in more than two years and we wanted to do it right ” Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger said in a statement. “That means delivering a great show for our fans at a reasonable ticket price. That’s very important to us, and this association with AT&T Wireless M3 makes it possible.” This is not Incubus’ first partnership with the phone giant, as the band previously took part in the AT&T Wireless Acoustic Series, which also featured Foo Fighters and Beck.
Prior to the tour’s kick-off, the band will take part in the Rolling Rock Town Fair Aug. 4 at the Westmoreland Fairgrounds in Greensburg, Pa. Also on that bill are Stone Temple Pilots, Live, Staind, the Deftones, Godsmack, and Oleander. Incubus will then head down under for August dates in New Zealand, Australia, and Japan, before returning for the Levi’s Inland Invasion Aug. 25 in Devore, Calif. That bill will also feature Weezer, Social Distortion, the Offspring, Pennywise, Cold, Adema, Long Beach Dub Allstars, and Puddle of Mudd.
