A great gathering of the minds will come to Shanghai, China, Thursday and Friday, Sept. 21 and 22. It’s the 2017 edition of the International Music Summit Asia-Pacific, the fourth of its kind, and much discourse on the digital revolution in the dance music industry is on the docket.
The theme of IMS Asia-Pacific 2017 is “The Digital Storm.” Leaders and insiders covering all aspects of the ever-growing industry will be on hand to talk diversity in the culture, emerging markets, environmental impact, growing labels, and nurturing homegrown talents in a market that constantly shifts, with special emphasis on Asian regions.
“The potential of streaming and the Digital Storm in Asia is phenomenal, and the electronic music industry needs to be ready to embrace the opportunity,” IMS co-founder Ben Turner is quoted in a press release. “However, right now, its a mainstream music market, and IMS hopes to help redress the balance by helping the region support a full eco-system like we enjoy in other parts of the world. These are also testing times in the live market and best practices at events in Asia remain a huge concern. As always, there is plenty to debate at IMS Asia-Pacific.”
Speakers will include representatives from China’s live dance music event leader A2LiVE, the Association for Electronic Music, global talent agency Paradigm, Point Blank Music School, and Billboard China.
It’s not all panels, though. Last year, Boiler Room came through to cast a special party with Skrillex. Surely, IMS 2017 has some fun after-hours stuff up its sleeve. Attendees will have first look of the NetEase Music Report: Asia Pacific, the opportunity to attend Point Blank Music School Masterclasses, and hear the winners of the Pyro Top 100 China DJ and Club awards.
China is home to one of the fastest growing sectors of the dance music market. It’s only sensible that the IMS makes a solid home in the country. Check the IMS website for more information, and peep the full list of announced topics and speakers below.
