LONDON — Giouw Jui-Chian is to exit the IFPI at the end of October after 24 years’ service.
The Hong Kong-based executive has headed the trade body’s operations in southeast Asia and China as regional director since 1992.
In a statement issued by the IFPI, Giouw says, “It is now time for me to move on and explore new interests.”
IFPI chairman/CEO John Kennedy commented, “Giouw has been a valued and respected advocate for the recording industry in Asia, and his work across the region has helped keep our priorities high on the agenda of governments and enforcement authorities.”
Giouw joined the IFPI in 1981 as an anti-piracy coordinator in Singapore. Three years later he was promoted to anti-piracy co-ordinator for the south east Asia region. He is credited with either establishing or reorganizing most of the IFPI’s national groups in Asia during the 1980s.
