Idris Elba stars in two starkly different films coming up this year, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and the film adaptation of Cats.
The contrasting acting roles was the topic of hilarious conversation as the actor stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. When I was working on Hobbs & Shaw, just after that I went to work on Cats. So, I’m working with Dwayne [Johnson] and Jason [Statham], and as soon as they found out I was working on Cats—this is their favorite thing to do. I walked on set, looking all bravado and they’re like, ‘Hey, Idris, what you doing next?’ And the crew will be like, ‘Yeah, what are you doing next?’ And I’ll be like, [coughs] ‘Cats.’”
After a brief conversation trying to explain the complicated plot of the musical, Elba attempts to teach Colbert how to move like a cat, as the actor and the rest of the Cats cast had to go through training to learn to move like a feline. “It’s all about the shoulders,” Elba tells the host and they move around in fluid motions.
Check out the interview below. Hobbs and Shaw hits theaters Aug. 2, and Cats follows on Dec. 20.
