Idris Elba may be best known for his roles in film and television, but the British actor has been steadily making moves as a DJ and producer since his teen years. When April rolls around, Elba can check off a major milestone that many artists dream of: playing Coachella.
Elba will be performing on April 13 and 20 alongside headliner Tame Impala, Latin superstar J Balvin, dance mainstay Bassnectar and many others at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, Calif.
Elba, who has been DJing since he was 14, has previously performed at Glastonbury and Creamfields in the UK. He was also behind the decks at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding reception in May.
In the studio, Elba has collaborated with Fatboy Slim on “Uptown Funk” and remixed Skepta’s “Shutdown.” Pete Tong also crafted an “All Gone Pete Tong” edit of Elba’s single “Spectacle.” It seems like the multi-faceted creative has even bigger plans to make his mark in the music world with the launch of his own record label, 7Wallace Music, which was announced this past July.
Coachella’s set times will be released much closer to its event, but Idris Elba is surely a must-see. Check out the full 2019 lineup here.
