The second season finalists of Fox television’s “American Idol” reality series/talent contest will hit the road for nearly two months this summer. The 39-date North American trek will kick off July 8 in St. Paul, Minn., and wrap Aug. 31 in Anaheim, Calif. Tickets for all of the shows go on sale May 16-18.
Exactly how many of the finalists will participate in the tour has not yet been announced. Last fall, the top-10 first season finalists hit the road on a tour that began about a month after Kelly Clarkson won the inaugural competition.
The show’s 10 second season finalists already have a hit record on their hands with their version of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.” The title debuted last week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Singles Sales chart and No. 4 on the Hot 100. The track is also featured on “American Idol Season 2: All Time Classic Love Songs” album, released yesterday (April 29) by RCA.
The second “Idol” season is nearing its close, with the winner due to be revealed on the May 21 finale. Five finalists — Clay Aiken, Joshua Gracin, Kimberley Locke, Ruben Studdard, and Trenyce — will be pared down to four tonight, when the results from last night’s viewer vote are revealed.
