With the burgeoning hit “Tattoo” working in her favor, season six “American Idol” champion Jordin Sparks will this week release her debut album for 19 Recordings/Jive. “Tattoo” was produced by Stargate (Beyonce, Ne-Yo) and co-written with Amanda Ghost (James Blunt’s “Beautiful”).
“It’s kind of Kelly Clarkson’s pop edge, a little bit,” Sparks says by way of description of her debut, which also features contributions from the Underdogs, Eman, Robbie Nevil and Sam Watters.
Sparks attributes some of her vocal performances to the experience of singing live every night this summer on the American Idols Live! Tour.
“I’ve always been a student of singing — listening to stuff on the radio and trying to figure out how a singer is ‘breathing,’ how they do harmonies,” she says. “What was great about performing live every night is building the strength in my voice and seeing it resonate with the audience. I tried to bring that into my sessions for the album — giving that kind of power to the material.”
