Icelandic ambient rock outfit Sigur Ros will embark on its lengthiest tour of North America to date, beginning Sept. 18 in Detroit. According to the band’s official Web site, after some as-yet-unconfirmed shows in the U.K. in September, Sigur Ros will hit 12 North American markets. Dates in Japan and Brazil will follow.
Sigur Ros has only performed five shows to date in North America, including an appearance at the Coachella festival in Indio, Calif., and a club date at New York’s Bowery Ballroom. The dates came in support of the group’s North American debut, “Agaetis Byrjun,” which was reissued in the region under a new deal with PIAS. The set has sold 30,000 copies in the U.S. to date, according to SoundScan.
A new album is expected in the first half of 2002. In the meantime, Sigur Ros’ performance last weekend at the Montreux (Switzerland) Jazz Festival can be viewed online at the festival’s official Web site.
