The island’s governing council (made up of a president and five mayors) voted on the sanction Thursday, promising harsher penalties for venues that disregard the new rule, which will impact Ibiza megaclubs like Pacha, DC-10, Sankeys, Amnesia and Space.

The island-wide closing time also contains provisions for smaller clubs — beach clubs will close at midnight, while cafés conciertos will close at 5 a.m. The decision comes in the wake of a number of clubs violating the closing times dictated by their individual licenses.
The new regulations will go into effect next summer.
