Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief, organized by Houston rapper Bun B and SB Projects head Scooter Braun, is preparing to expand its beneficiaries to include those adversely impacted by Hurricane Irma. The category 5 storm is currently making its way across the Caribbean to Puerto Rico and threatening to create havoc and destruction on the Virgin Islands, the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Cuba is also threatened.
“Due to the impending possibility of Hurricane Irma, the Hand in Hand Hurricane benefit has now made arrangements and is prepared to expand its beneficiaries of the September 12th telethon to also include those who may be affected by Hurricane Irma in addition to those affected by Hurricane Harvey,” the organization said in a a statement, “We are prepared to help in any way we can.”
The one-hour special, which will air Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. ET (and replay at 8:00 p.m. PT) on the big four broadcast networks and CMT, will be based in Los Angeles with stages in New York, Nashville and San Antonio from stages on the Universal Studios lot, Times Square and Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry and Majestic Theater, respectively.
The broadcast is set to feature “appearances, performances and taped performances and tributes:” by a cavalcade of musicians, including Beyonce, The Black Eyed Peas, Justin Bieber, Drake, Kelly Rowland, Blake Shelton, Barbra Streisand, Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton, Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen and George Strait.
Proceeds from the one-hour Hand in Hand telethon will benefit United Way of Greater Houston, Habitat for Humanity, Save the Children, Direct Relief, Feeding Texas, Rebuild Texas and The Mayor’s Fund for Hurricane Harvey Relief.
Non-music celebrities include George Clooney, Robert De Niro, Jamie Foxx, Karlie Kloss, Adam Sandler, Ryan Seacrest, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Julia Roberts and Matthew McConaughey, among others.
Allison Kaye, Jesse Ignjatovic and Evan Prager are also executive producing the event.
